Lotus Sport UK has signed Sailesh Bolisetti to race in the 2012 Avon Tyres British GT Championship. The 23-year-old from Visakhapatnum, on the east coast of India, will race the Lotus Evora GT4 which took three wins last year, the team’s maiden season.
Bolisetti began racing in 2007 and went on to win India’s inaugural Volkswagen Polo Cup in 2010. As part of his prize, he was promoted to the Volkswagen Scirocco R Cup, a support series for Europe’s DTM championship. Now he’s preparing to make the step up to sportscar racing, alongside some of the toughest tin-top competitors in the business. Commenting on his appointment Sailesh Bolisetti said: “Being associated with such a well-known name in racing is a great opportunity for me, especially one with such a rich pedigree across a uniquely wide range of disciplines. But I don’t take it as a pressure, I take it as a privilege I’ll be driving for the same brand as some of my all time heroes and sporting legends and I’m really looking forward to it.” British GT’s seven-race season kicks off at Oulton Park on April 7. In addition, Bolisetti will contest the Indian i1 Super Series in the Middle East and Asia, in order to get as much experience under his belt as possible. Gary Ayles, Team Manager, Lotus Sport UK said: “Sailesh is a strong talent that hadn’t been discovered in Europe, until now. I first got to know him and his father through my contacts in India, having been involved with the A1GP India team and raced over there in F3. We kept in contact and now Sailesh has come of age and is ready to race here in Europe with our team. You need to keep an eye on this lad. He’s a star in the making.” |

Group Lotus celebrates the most recent success in its brand reinvention with the completion of another key milestone.
Group Lotus is delighted to confirm a brand new ‘LOTUS ORIGINALS’ flagship store will be opening in London’s prestigious Regent Street - 52 Regent Street to be exact! Situated in London’s Piccadilly, from Spring/Summer 2012 the building will host a brand new Lotus experience: a 4,800 sq ft store situated in a Grade II-listed former ‘Café Royal’ with exciting displays and a full stock of apparel, accessories, gifts, toys, and limited edition collectables, it’s one for Lotus fans and shopaholics alike. The LOTUS ORIGINALS line made its debut at the 2010 Paris motor show alongside five new Lotus cars as a preview to the new Lotus lifestyle that the future Lotus car line-up reflects. Debuting with high-quality apparel, accessories and gifts, the move to Regent Street affords the space to showcase a much expanded LOTUS ORIGINALS collection. In the 16 months since the collections’ preview, LOTUS ORIGINALS has grown to include exclusive sporting items such as bikes and helmets, toys and even stationery. The development of the LOTUS ORIGINALS retail concept has been rapid, upon its launch in September 2010 the dedicated website www.lotusoriginals.com was the only retail outlet for the collection. The first shops soon followed with a store at Lotus’ Hethel HQ and Norwich City Football Club’s Carrow Road stadium opening in Late 2011. Dealer shops have also recently opened in China at new Beijing and Chengdu showrooms and a Shanghai store is imminent. The London flagship store is the next step in a fully integrated, international retail strategy for non-car Lotus products. Wiebke Bauer Director of Licensing & Retail for Group Lotus said, “We are delighted to secure this iconic location, it's the result of many months of careful planning and negotiations - the completion of this milestone really demonstrates the success of the LOTUS ORIGINALS offering and the potential we have for the future. This is the cornerstone of our global retail strategy and we have lots to look forward to.” |

Group Lotus Commercial Director Tony Schulp and Factory Driver Johnny Mowlem took to the Autosport Stage today to announce a series of exciting new developments. For those of you who missed it, we’ll try to keep it top line ...
LOTUS INKS ITS DRAGON TATTOO Lotus has chosen the Autosport International Show to announce its full factory partnership with the Dragon Racing IndyCar team. Lotus Dragon Racing will be an official Lotus team, racing in the black and gold colours that are shared by the marque’s Formula One programme. Owned by Jay Penske Chairman and CEO of the Penske Media Corporation, and son of US racing legend Roger Penske Dragon Racing debuted in 2007, picking up fifth at the Indy 500 straight out of the box at the hands of Ryan Briscoe. In 2009, its first full season, Dragon driver Raphael Matos took the Rookie of the Year honours. In 2012, the Lotus Dragon Racing line up is a particularly strong one: Katherine Legge, the first female driver to win a major open-wheel race in North America, and four-time Champ Car Series champion and former F1 racer Sebastien Bourdais. Claudio Berro, Group Lotus Director of Motorsport: Claudio Berro: "We are very pleased to be able to announce this new and exciting partnership with Dragon Racing today, a team which has demonstrated its potential and which we believe will achieve great success thanks to the Lotus IndyCar engine and the security of a major backer. Last year was Lotus' first foray into this prestigious open-wheel series since Jim Clark won the Indy 500 back in 1965. We have a tremendous legacy in this sport, and are determined to become winners again. The American market is one of the most important to Lotus in terms of road car sales, hence our aggressive marketing strategies through US auto racing. We believe Lotus Dragon Racing and our other partner teams will give us the best opportunity to achieve our ambitious goals." INDIANA CLONES AND THE FAST CRUSADE In 2012 no less than four teams with an anticipated minimum eights cars will be packing Lotus power in the IZOD IndyCar Series. The company’s all-new twin-turbo V6 has its first shakedown today at the Moroso circuit in Jupiter, Florida, with Lotus HVM driver Simona de Silvestro working the loud pedal. The engine program, which was announced in November 2010, has come together quickly without teething problems, and fire-ups away from the track have ticked all the boxes. Lotus Dragon Racing, Lotus HVM Racing, Lotus Bryan Herta Autosport, and Lotus Dreyer & Reinbold Racing are all confirmed as engine partners. The Autosport International Show marks the first public appearance of this ambitious powerplant. Claudio Berro, Group Lotus Director of Motorsport: “The engine has performed extremely well so far, and we and our partners are very pleased with the results. We had our first fire-up in a Dallara chassis in Palma, Italy on 21-23 December, then the engine was sent to America, and today we’re having our first on-track shakedown, at Moroso, which is very exciting. On January 1st we opened a Lotus facility in Indianapolis which will be our US engineering and logistics hub, so it’s all go. We’ve still got a lot of work to do before the start of the season, but I couldn’t be happier with the progress we’re making.” LOTUS MOTORSPORT BECOMES LOTUS RACING In order to reflect the broad range of Lotus’ competition activities, Lotus Racing becomes the new umbrella name for Group Lotus’ racing division. All of our official works teams will now race in the evocative black and gold livery. These include the Lotus F1 Team, GP2 and GP3 team Lotus GP (formerly ART) and Lotus Dragon Racing. Partner teams, such as the Lotus-engined IndyCar teams Lotus Herta Autosport, Lotus Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will also run in black and gold with Lotus HVM Racing running in predominantly green, yellow and white. Customer teams have the option of running other classic Lotus liveries, such as Lotus Sport UK’s ‘Gold Leaf’ red, white and gold, which was raced to victory in the British GT Championship last year. WELCOME TO THE CLUB As mentioned earlier this week, Lotus has formed one of the most exclusive members clubs in the world - Lotus Club GT. It’s a gentlemen’s or ladies club with a difference. No leather Chesterfields, wood-panelled walls or cigar smoke here, you’ll find bucket seats, carbon-panelling and the smell of burning rubber. It is the ultimate club for sports car enthusiasts. The club’s current entry requirements are met with the purchase of one of Lotus’ premium race-bred models the Evora GT4 and Evora Enduro with club specification. Member benefits include one-to-one driver tuition catering for drivers of all abilities from our professional works drivers and the Lotus F1 Team. Members also receive exclusive VIP access to Lotus events, like going behind the scenes at the Lotus F1 Team’s high security HQ and in the pits at glamorous grands prix. Matthew de Morgan, businessman and Lotus Club GT member: “You will enjoy it, and I think what you get out of it is more than what you give. We aren’t out there to be pseudo Michael Schumachers, we’re there to have fun competing, to enjoy ourselves in an environment which is safe, educational and challenging. I think this is what the GT club is all about. I didn’t come here with a previous history of driving cars round a track and having done it I’m delighted. Frankly it’s probably the best thing I’ve done for myself in the last ten years.” Claudio Berro, Group Lotus Director of Motorsport: “Through all our activity on and off the track, we want to make the driver experience as incredible and unique as possible so creating the Lotus Club GT was a natural step for us. Our clients have come to expect more than just to be handed the car keys, they want to be part of the team and to really understand how to get the very most from their investment. Everything is tailored to match the individual expectations of our clients allowing them to truly realise their potential behind the wheel. So far the feedback we have had from members is fantastic - they really become part of the Lotus family” Check out the Lotus Club GT in action here: www.4lot.us/motorsportvideos F1 TEAM PIMPS OUR ULTIMATE RIDE Lotus’ Formula One customer experience, the Type 125, has become even more F1, thanks to its final phase of development work by the Lotus F1 Team. Newly-announced driver Romain Grosjean put the car through its paces in Portugal recently as engineers honed the car’s set-up to replicate those of a current generation Formula One beast, while keeping it safe, easy to drive and reliable for Lotus’ private customers. A normal F1 car requires a huge crew just to start it up, yet the single-seat Type 125 can be fired up at the touch of a button. It’s 640bhp 3.5 litre Cosworth V8 engine is linked to a six-speed gearbox with paddle shift. It weights just 560kg resulting in a phenomenal power-to-weight of nearly 1000bhp per tonne. The Type 125 mule sits in a race bay at the team’s Enstone factory, where the 2012 F1 car is being prepared. It has now reached the end of its comprehensive development programme. Romain Grosjean: “The idea was to bring the car as close as possible to F1 level. We needed a car that was close to the lap time of a Formula One car, but that was also easy to drive. Development is something that I love to do, and the Type 125 has been a really interesting project for me. Some things were quite funny, like the auto clutch the car has for when you leave the garage and the option of auto up-shift, which seemed odd the first time I used it a bit like a computer game but it works well. We achieved a strong level of performance and sensation, but it is not too hard or too on-the-limit to drive which is important, because this car is designed for private customers. We did a lot of laps during our three-day test in Portimao and we had no reliability issues at all. Everything worked perfectly.” Arnaud Boulanger, Head of External Projects, Lotus F1 Team: "Lotus asked us to take on the Type 125 in September 2011 through to its final development. The programme was not to re-engineer the car completely, but to hone the set-up and the car's performance envelope as close as possible to Formula One, and match the build quality to 2012 F1 standards, while also making it safe, reliable and easy to drive. We needed a car that was exhilarating to drive, that was reasonably forgiving, that was relatively easy to operate but that still offers extreme performance very close to F1. Our programme had the added benefit of development from a current F1 driver, Romain Grosjean when he ran the car at Portimao in mid-November and gave us the valuable feedback we needed. “Working closely with Group Lotus, we have managed to fulfill all our engineering objectives in a very short space of time. The performance is just a small step back from Formula One, so as to allow the practical aspects I mentioned, but still provide the F1 experience customers crave. It's going to be very physical still, and not many drivers will be able to cope with more than a few flat-out laps. Drivers will be thrilled with the finished product." BACK TO BASICS You’re never too old to drive a Lotus. You’re never too young either. Arguably the most fun, raw and inspirational racing machine on our stand in Birmingham is the new Lotus Racing Kart, built in Italy to the highest standards by Wildkarts. The official Lotus Racing Karts team will be evaluating drivers at the end of the month in Lonato, and will compete in the CIK-FIA KF1 Karting World Championship. Championship events will take place at Varennes sur Allier in France (29 April), Suzuka in Japan (20 May), Brandon in UK (22 July), Sarno in Italy (9 September) and Macau-Coloane (21 October). Lotus Racing Karts has also set its sights on the Asia-Pacific zone and, represented by a Japanese partner, will form a team in the exciting All-Japan Championship. Another important task for Lotus Racing Karts will be CIK-FIA «U18» Karting World Championship. This new series is aimed at promoting drivers between 15 and 18-years-old through an FIA World Championship in which costs are rigorously limited, in particular thanks to the free allocation of engines and tyres to all participants. Free? That’s not a word you hear often in this business, is it? TEAM BULLRUN’S NEW BABY Team Bullrun will be running a Lotus Evora GT4 in the 2012 Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship. The team has previously won the series’ production car titles, while the Evora placed a very credible third in the Britcar 24 Hours last October, but this will be the first full season’s racing for Lotus’ endurance model. Former Britcar Production Champions Richard Adams and David Green will be joined by 2011 BTCC driver Martin Byford. Formula Ford veterans Fluid Motorsport are joining forces with Bullrun to manage the team. Team Bullrun refers to the US-based luxury rally in which fun-loving and cash-rich enthusiasts take the public roads by storm. Expect some eye-catching Lotus models as well as Burt Reynolds look-a-likes on the Bullrun this year, which kicks off in Hollywood on June 23 and promises seven days of high-octane hedonism. A few thousand miles from Tinsletown and with no pressure to obey the rules of the road - the first round of the 2012 Britcar series will be held at Silverstone on March 24. Claudio Berro, Group Lotus Director of Motorsport: “We are delighted that Bullrun share our view that the Evora could be a serious championship contender this year. It is clearly good news to see a British team, with a British car competing for a British title. The overall package Bullrun has managed to put together looks very strong and we look forward to closely following their progress throughout the season.” Lindsay Allen, Fluid Motorsport co-founder: “We have been considering a move in GT racing for some time the combination of Bullrun’s track record in Britcar, its trio of experienced drivers and our own race preparation and championship expertise should make for a very strong team. The new Lotus Evora package Bullrun have secured looks to be very competitive. We are very much looking forward to running this alongside our usual Formula Ford operations.” UP FOR THE CUP The Lotus Cup Series, which sees enthusiasts race wheel-to-wheel across the globe, is set for even more action this year. In addition to the Elises, Exiges and 2-Elevens that already make up the grids, we will be welcoming Evora V6 entrants worldwide, including the GTS and GTN variants. Lotus-On-Track, which runs the Cup, has its own stand at the Autosport Show 2520 with the GTS on display. Here, you can also view the GTS/N conversion kit, which will turn your production-spec Evora into an out-and-out racer. Bolt it on, and stand well back. The Lotus Cup has proved massively popular, with 350 participants racing worldwide on some of the most challenging and legendary race tracks and this year there is the added incentive of a prize for the most successful Evora running in the 2012 Cup. Championships are held across the UK, Europe, Eastern Europe, Italy, the USA and Japan, and we’re hoping to add some more territories in 2012. Echoing our famous Formula One livery, the Lotus Cup gets a lick of paint this year and a new logo in keeping with the refreshed Lotus Racing brand strategy. HOWDY PARTNERS Lotus is pleased to announce a couple of new corporate partners to our racing stable. OCS is an international facilities management company, which provides many businesses with cleaning, catering, security, waste and maintenance services and, by partnering with Lotus Racing, it hopes to wipe the floor with the competition. OAMPS is one of the UK’s leading independent insurance brokers, with a broad range of general and specialist insurance solutions such as motor racing as well as associated environmental, health and safety services. Partnering one of the most successful marques in motorsport they, too, are in safe hands. Both brands will be carried on our GT championship Evoras. In addition, on the stand at the NEC, we have a Petronas-plastered Evora GT4. Our collaboration with the Malaysian petrochemical giant is going from strength-to-strength and it’s great to have their growing support. A PETROLHEAD’S SMORGASBORD Lotus’ stand at Autosport International is showing off some of our most exciting track-born and race-bred models. In addition to the Petronas-sponsored Evora GT4, in which Lotus Sport UK scored two wins during its maiden season of British GT, we’re displaying a Lotus Renault GP F1 car; the black-and-gold R31 took podiums in the Australian and Malaysian grands prix last year. Then there’s the Evora GT Enduro, our new 440bhp evolution of the GT4, which will be used in the Lotus Club GT. Finally, the NEC boasts the sensational Evora GTE the ultimate road-going Lotus and by far the most powerful too. With its aggressive face and eye watering stats, it stole the show at last summer’s Pebble Beach Concours, so we were compelled to put it into production. |

Success in Italy with the first IndyCar engine fire-up and Exige R-GT Rally shakedown.
Whilst most sensible people prepare to wind down for the festive period, the hard working Lotus Motorsport team are busy celebrating the fruits of their labour over the past 12 months following the first successful engine fire up in the Lotus IndyCar chassis AND the first proper Exige R-GT rally car shakedown all within the space of 24 hours. The first official Lotus IndyCar engine fire up in new car took place on 22nd December at Dallara’s headquarters in Varano Melegari, Palma under the watchful eye of Group Lotus Director of Motorsport Claudio Berro and technicians from the team. Pleased with the overall results, the team have now prepared the engine and car for shipment to the US where full testing will begin in January. Heading north to Turin, the Exige R-GT, the Rally version of the new Exige S, took centre stage with a quick track shakedown for the first time in full Rally specification. The car handled exactly as expected and the team were delighted with the results. Testing will continue in the new year ahead of the start of the 2012 FIA World Rally Championship season where the Exige will contend the FIA GT category on asphalt at events in Monte Carlo, Tour de Corse and San Remo. Claudio Berro said: “The fire up in the car went really well, there were no nasty surprises and I think our partners are going to be very happy with the results. It was only October last year that we announced that we would become an IndyCar engine supplier and just 12 months on, we had an all new Lotus engine and three teams signed up - Bryan Herta Autosport, Dreyer and Reinbold Racing, and HVM Racing. We’ve still got a lot of work to do ahead of the start of the 2012 IZOD IndyCar season but so far I’m very encouraged by what I see. “And as for the Rally car, when you consider that we’ve only began working on this car in July, I think what we’ve achieved in that time has been incredible. For me the Exige S makes the perfect GT rally car, it has an awesome 3.5-litre, supercharged engine, and we’ve managed to balance the weight perfectly to meet the minimum weight regulations. The shakedown today (23rd December) has only made us even more excited to show off the car in true race form early next year I think we’re doing the Lotus motorsport pedigree proud.” |

The new customer facing Lotus experience was showcased today as the LOTUS ORIGINALS shop and future dealership concept were launched by Lotus Renault GP’s Bruno Senna.
Located at the Group Lotus HQ, Hethel, UK, the new retail concept clearly demonstrates the reinvigorated identity of Lotus, one befitting the current and future collection of cars planned for 2013 and beyond. Part of a global strategy, the Hethel store is the first LOTUS ORIGINALS retail experience to open in Europe and finally gives customers the chance to try the collection before they buy having only been able to buy online since March 2011. Commenting on the launch Group Lotus Director of Licensing and Merchandise Wiebke Bauer said: "It's a very proud day for us today, it's more than a simple store opening. One of the biggest challenges we have as a business, outside of selling cars, is to make the Lotus brand as accessible as possible. We have many fans out there in the world who aren't necessarily in a position to buy one of our cars but they still want to be part of the Lotus world and this means a lot to us. Developments like this first shop - as part of our global retail strategy, our motorsports activities and the magazine allow us to reach out to so many people who believe in Lotus and this can only be a good thing." "The team have worked incredibly hard to put together a range of apparel and accessories that will appeal to even the most hard to please Lotus enthusiast. Our focus throughout has been on quality and ensuring a truly authentic Lotus experience for the customer. This shop opening is just one of the many small but important steps we are currently taking as part of the overall brand development strategy. Our next major step will be the official LOTUS ORIGINALS store opening in London early next year - which we're very much looking forward to. People won't need to wait until next year though, they can come and get a taste of what to expect right here, right now at Hethel." Alongside the shop, Group Lotus also showcased the new look customers can expect from Lotus dealerships in the future. The dealership environment has a modern look and feel with an inviting lounge area where customers can browse the Lotus library or leisurely spec their new Lotus! Lotus’ latest cars will be on display with a full paint and trim swatches to complete the Lotus shopping experience. The store is open to the public Monday to Thursday 8.30am until 5pm and 8.30am until midday on Fridays. Customers can also shop online at LOTUSORIGINALS.com. More about the LOTUS ORIGINALS concept and collection The shop design reflects the LOTUS ORIGINALS brand direction of authenticity, innovation and design excellence and beautifully demonstrates the Lotus approach to modern application with a classic twist. A high-gloss finish throughout the store and concealed lighting make for a clean, even engineered appearance, yet beyond the floating shelves, glass and chrome elements, heritage details are found. Rails are bound with high quality black leather complimented with contrast yellow stitching and subtle panel designs reverence the brands’ rich heritage in a very British way. Consistency throughout the store and the product offering is very important. The LOTUS ORIGINALS collection is a refined, cohesive range of luxury apparel, leather goods and performance outerwear that centre on craftsmanship, heritage and the spirit of Lotus yet use new technologies and techniques that appeal to today’s buyer a theme that runs throughout everything Lotus does and results in desirability and exclusivity. High quality and attention to detail are key, with Loro Piana 100% cashmere yarn used in block coloured sweaters, cardigans and V-neck knits. Polo shirts and T-shirts feature double stitch edging with a playful approach to branding including; vintage Lotus logos, racing stripes and car silhouettes. A hand-treated leather jacket, inspired by the 1970s drivers’ suits, uses authentic design details in the form of protective quilted padding on the shoulders and a two-button side-fasten collar. The new store will also showcase a range of luxury lifestyle accessories. Hand-crafted luggage will be available in several styles; all finished with heavy zips, contrast stitching and discrete embossed Lotus logos. Calfskin leather driving gloves are the ultimate indulgence, in tan, black, Lotus green and bright yellow. Carbon fibre gaming sets, calfskin wallets, range of colourful belts and luxury desk accessories are also available as part of the range. |

Lotus announces three partner teams to run Lotus IndyCar twin turbo V-6 racing engines in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series season.
• Lotus Motorsport will supply engines to Bryan Herta Autosport, Dreyer and Reinbold Racing and HVM Racing. • Engine supply partnership agreements will enable Lotus Motorsport to build long term technical and commercial collaborations with these teams. Lotus utilized the Los Angeles Auto Show today as a platform to announce three partner teams that will race the new Lotus IndyCar V-6 engine in the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series. Alongside this Lotus showcased developmental updates on future products and introduced the new Evora with Intelligent Precision Shift (IPS) transmission to the Western US. Just as developmental work is progressing at full speed on the first of Lotus’ future cars, the all-new Lotus Esprit and its clean-sheet high performance V-8 engine, Lotus Motorsport is rapidly readying its new twin turbo V-6 IndyCar engine for the rigors of racing. Group Lotus Director of Motorsport Operations, Miodrag Kotur said: “At the LA show last year, we announced that we will be an engine supplier to IndyCar and exactly 12 months on, we are here with an all new Lotus engine and three teams, ready to go. The numbers that the engine is already achieving in our dyno testing are extremely encouraging so our hard work is well and truly paying off.” “These partnerships with Bryan Herta Autosport, Dreyer and Reinbold Racing, and HVM Racing mean a great deal to Lotus Motorsport and mark the start of a new chapter for Lotus in the IZOD IndyCar Series. We’re thrilled that these already successful and illustrious teams have chosen Lotus, as we believe that our capabilities as a partner will pay dividends for them in the future. These three teams have immediately become part of the Lotus legend and have joined us in our journey as one of the most innovative and successful sports and racing car brands in the world.” Each of these racing organizations, as Lotus partner teams, will benefit from the extensive testing and development work of the others to more quickly achieve the mutually desired competitive results. In addition to the new Lotus V6 twin turbo IndyCar engine, work is continuing on the new Lotus Motorsport facility in Indianapolis, which will give the company its base close to the action and its partner teams. As the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series season draws nearer, further announcements will be made by the teams at their individual launch events in due course. |

We truly believe that the Chinese market will completely embrace the Lotus philosophy of performance through lightweight and innovation through clever design we sold around 300 units before we even opened the showroom so the initial interest and orders put forward indicate that our faith in the brand is well placed." Group Lotus Chief Executive Office Dany Bahar said: “East Asia and in particular China represents an interesting market for Lotus and this latest development is a crucial step in the strategic plan we have for expansion within this important region. We see many exciting opportunities for growth within the Chinese market and we could not ask for better partners than Lotus China to join us on this journey. The response we have had from China to the current and new Lotus range has been incredible particularly the demand for the Evora GTE Road Car this activity confirms our suspicions that now is the perfect time to really push in this market.” The showroom, situated in the fashionable Chaoyang district, also represents another key event in Lotus’ journey as it’s the first showroom in the world to adopt Group Lotus’ new corporate identity alongside a dedicated boutique for Lotus Originals. Covering a total area of 600m2, the uniquely designed showroom has two floors, the first is dedicated to the cars, sales and Lotus Originals with offices on the second. A further ten showrooms are expected to be opened in China in 2012.

| Chris Evans Signs-off ‘Freddie’ Evora | 08.10.2011 | |

|
Broadcaster and car enthusiast Chris Evans visited Lotus at Friday 30th September to agree the final spec of the Evora S he bought at auction to raise money for Freddie Mercury’s charity Mercury Phoenix Trust.
At a glamorous, star-studded event at the Savoy last month, the great and beautiful gathered to mark the late Freddie Mercury’s 65th Birthday and boy, was it a party! A guilt-free party at that, for at the heart of the celebrations was a very deserving cause, the Mercury Phoenix Trust who work relentlessly to improve education and awareness of HIV and AIDS in the developing world. During the evening a bespoke 'Freddie inspired' Evora S was sold at auction to selfconfessed "car geek" Chris Evans. Chris' well documented purchase was followed by a visit to Lotus Headquarters to agree the final design and specification of the new addition to his established and considerable car collection. Chris' visit was a 'behind-the-scenes' view of Lotus, a real treat for any car-enthusiast and their son, little Noah also came along for the day! First stop was the Design Studio, a secure and highly confidential area where all of Lotus' future projects are safely guarded. This was clearly an exciting opportunity for Chris and his enthusiasm extended into a session with the Lotus design team to put the final flourishes to his own Evora, to say Chris was "like a kid in a candy store" is no exaggeration! The visit also included a tour of the Lotus production line where Chris chatted to staff, signed autographs and posed for photos which was a real treat for his fans here at Lotus HQ. To thank Chris for supporting the Mercury Phoenix Trust and to make a memorable day even more special a track session was arranged. We all had a great day and last night Chris sent us the following email, we thought you’d like to see what he thought of his day with us! "Great day down with the guys at Hethel/Lotus HQ. I am officially especially excited over what I took a sneak peak at concerning certain future production cars. Time machine required - get them in the showrooms asap so the world can look on in wonder. And as for Gavan the test driver, he should be available on prescription. Woohoo!! I'd also like to thank Gino for his hospitality and muchos gracias to Russ and his design team for helping me spec the Freddie Mercury Tribute Evora S in the spirit with which it deserves. The initial purpose of my visit. There has been talk about a future go in an F1 drive-a-like. Count me in! ...P.S. Noah says he's never had a more enjoyable time at a works HQ but then again he is only two and a half and it was his first one." When it comes to fan conversion, we at Lotus have one rule; get them while they’re young!! Welcome to the club Noah! |

The message on the Lotus stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show was clear: More Lotus than ever! And the new face of the Lotus Driving Academy fits perfectly to this message.
Ever wondered what makes a great driver really great? People often ask us what the secret is to maintaining oversteer, negotiating a slalom or mastering ‘heel & toe’. The answer: track time and expert training. Complete with a newly refurbished Lotus Test track and new Chief Instructor in the form of former Lotus F1 driver, Martin Donnelly, the Lotus Driving Academy (LDA) opens its doors for the autumn term with a brand new syllabus and the ‘Lotus Licence’. The ‘Lotus Licence’ is a tiered programme that delivers full driving training and qualification to drive the amazing Evora GT4 at race standard. Level 1 covers heritage and an introduction to the Lotus brand, an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the production facilities and general vehicle handling training. Subject to successfully passing Level 1, drivers will advance to Level 2 and eventually to Level 3 where they hone their skills learning everything from the theory of vehicle dynamics and tyre grip to trail breaking and powersliding. Completion of Level 3 entitles drivers to their ‘Lotus Licence’ and access to the Hethel track in the Evora GT4 - this is where the fun gets serious! Level ‘GT’ 4 is the ultimate race driving tuition. All aspects of the circuit for racing are encompassed with special attention to race lines, analyses and a full debrief, after the serious bit it’s on to the fun stuff, and that’s the car! The Evora GT4 is a real race car with FIA regulated safety features. The Evora GT4 is a transverse mid-engined, rear wheel drive, sequential 6-speed transmission with paddle shift and twin plate sintered clutch. Shod in slick tyres, it delivers 354hp (257.5kw) at 6500rpm and 328lbft (400nm) at 5500rpm of torque - sounds good? The LDA allows you to find out what it’s like to drive on track and really unleash your racing talent. What’s unique about the LDA is that drivers receive dedicated 1:1 tuition for the entire programme. Selected by Martin Donnelly, instructors are not only of the highest calibre, but they are completely focussed on their pupils so drivers can advance at the quickest possible rate and receive a truly bespoke experience. Chief Instructor Martin Donnelly comments: “Lotus cars are real drivers’ cars. The Lotus Driving Academy is the perfect way to experience the special relationship between a car and the track and it’s a great opportunity for customers or aspiring customers to push themselves to the limit and experience everything Lotus has to offer. The syllabus we have put together is very technical so the training is comprehensive and challenging. There really is no better driver training out there!” Managing Director Robert Lechner talks passionately about his plans for expansion: “We are really confident with the Lotus Driving Academy model, we have seen drivers progress and achieve their potential quickly so they keep coming back! Our success is down to creating the perfect learning experience with expert instructors in a world-class environment. We are very happy to run our programmes at the re-launched Lotus track and are planning to open Lotus Driving Academies internationally, our first centre outside of the UK is at the Hungaroring in Budapest and we are looking at new locations at some of the greatest circuits around the world.“ Prices start at £399. | Frankfurt = More Lotus Than Ever | 13.09.2011 | |
|---|---|---|
|
9am (CET) Tuesday 13th September saw Group Lotus showcase three new cars, two new options and one special limited edition. CEO Dany Bahar was joined by F1 presenter Jake Humphrey to host the Lotus press conference at the Frankfurt Motor Show. More Lotus than ever? You decide …
3 New Models Exige S: Raw performance, mind blowing agility and unparalleled ride and handling, these attributes are what people have come to expect from Lotus. And we don’t like to disappoint. After months of media speculation Group Lotus proudly unveiled the latest addition to the family: the extraordinary new Exige S, the ultimate lightweight high performance sportscar. With a lightweight 1080kg chassis teamed with a V6 3.5 litre engine delivering 350 PS, the Exige S has a completely new exterior and interior look and feel. The dramatic styling overhaul sees a completely new look for the Exige including a new front splitter and rear spoiler giving it a strong and aerodynamic profile. Commenting on the Exige S, Group Lotus Chief Executive Officer Dany Bahar said: “Anyone who has ever driven an Exige will tell you that it’s not for the faint-hearted. The new Exige S skips a few rungs on the ladder to give the driver the ultimate Lotus experience. Quite simply you can’t get more Lotus than the Exige S.” Exige R-GT: What better way to demonstrate Lotus’ superior ride and handling than by re-entering the adrenaline filled Rally Championships? Showcasing the new Exige S’ phenomenal performance, the Exige R-GT will participate in the newly formed FIA GT category of the FIA Rally Championship on asphalt in Monte Carlo, Tour de Corse and San Remo. Powered by the same V6 3.5 litre engine as the new road Exige, significant changes have been made to the gearbox and the restrictors on the engine in order to control the power. Lotus will initially partner with several customer teams following the tried and tested method in which Lotus entered IndyCar and returned to Le Mans. For Group Lotus’ Director of Motorsport Claudio Berro the return to rally has an extra special meaning: “My motorsport career started in rally, in fact, I even took part in the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus’ Italian Rally championship winning a race in San Marino back in 1981 so this is a very nostalgic moment for me. As we unveiled the car in Frankfurt, alongside the original championship winning car, I had the chance to get back inside and the smell was exactly the same it brought back many happy memories for me.” “With the new R-GT rules in rally, it’s a very interesting time for us to return to the sport. Naturally our approach this time around will be different to when we won the championship three decades ago, but I think our philosophy is definitely the same, we want to compete and ultimately we want to win. Our new rally car, the Exige R-GT is a dream come true for those who are passionate about GT racing this will be their car.” The beauty of the Exige R-GT is that although it’s a professionally set up race car, you don’t need to be a pro to drive it the race car has been developed alongside the road car allowing the technical team to create the perfect race machine, high performance but without losing the sense of fun to drive and ease of use. Developing the race version of the Exige in parallel with the road car has allowed the Lotus technicians to make rapid advances in terms of safety and reliability. Elise S: Want more torque? Then the new Elise S is the answer to your prayers. The Elise S replaces the Elise SC with a new 1.8l super charged engine capable of delivering 220 PS and a power delivery which results in even more torque. With the new engine and improved throttle response the Elise S gives an even more exhilarating and lively drive experience. The more efficient engine results in lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than the outgoing Elise SC. 2 New Options Evora S IPS: The new Evora S with IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift) option is added to the award-winning Evora line-up with all the power and handling of the Evora S with the versatility of IPS. The S with IPS option features the 3.5l V6 supercharged engine delivering 350 PS and optimised IPS calibration. The paddle shift manual mode allows the driver the full and uncompromised Evora S experience with the added bonus of switching to automatic mode. This is the most versatile Evora yet. Group Lotus Chief Executive Officer Dany Bahar said: “We’re really proud of the IPS option for the Evora S - people loved the Evora S and we had a great response to IPS, combining these two was a natural step and we’re delighted with the result. Nothing has been compromised in the development of this model, it’s a true Lotus through and through with a great drive experience enhanced through the integration of superior technology and typically dynamic Lotus engineering.” The entire Evora model year 12 range has benefited from over 130 quality improvements including significant changes to the transmission dynamics, engine performance, improved IPS calibration and interior trim upgrades. The model year 12 Evora S IPS on display in Frankfurt showcases the first physical evidence of Lotus new era in action. Elise SPS: The SPS (Serial Precision Shift) is the latest gearbox option available for the 1.6l Elise. The SPS option utilises new lightweight robotised automated manual transmission technology to allow the driver to switch between manual and automatic driving modes via paddles fixed to the steering column giving an even more direct connection with the road. The SPS option showcases Lotus’ clever approach to increasing the pure driving experience through innovative use of lightweight technology. 1 Special Limited Edition Evora GTE road car: All hail the mighty Evora GTE road car. Producing over 444 PS from the race developed Lotus Evora GTE engine, this is, quite simply, the most powerful Lotus road car ever built. Yet contrary to its extreme roots, the Evora GTE road car also delivers a comfortable and refined element to its high performance driving characteristics. Originally designed as a special limited edition for the Asian market, production will now be expanded on the Evora GTE road car to meet demand and reach further markets. Lotus Lightweight DNA: Clever use of carbon fibre has been integrated extensively throughout the exterior and interior of the car, this is one major contributors to the 105kg weight reduction versus the base Evora. Carbon fibre has been used for all the bodywork modifications including the front and rear bumpers, the rear wing and the doors. Commenting on the Evora GTE road car, Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar said: “To celebrate our successful return to Le Mans this year we created the ultimate road car racer. Initially we introduced this to the Asian market with our partners in China as a ‘taste of Lotus’ however the response was so great that we received 114 orders from China alone. This justified us looking in to speeding up the process of bringing this car to other territories. We showed a concept at Pebble Beach and are showing this production intent car at Frankfurt. We will bring this car to Europe and the US. People get so excited when they see and especially hear it for the first time. It’s a very special car and will appeal to a very special type of driver and they won’t be disappointed!” Lotus Engineering showcased the best of British technology - previewing what could be the future of transport: with the new and innovative 2-cylinder Lotus Fagor Ederlan Range Extender engine, a hydrogen fuel cell Lotus Taxi which produces emissions of just water and the Lotus Evora 414E hybrid, powered by two electric motors giving 800Nm of torque and 414 PS slingshotting this technical demonstrator to 100 km/h in just four seconds. So to sum up Lotus in Frankfurt: Performance + Superior ride & handling + Lightweight technology + Improved quality = MORE LOTUS THAN EVER Please note: Fuel consumption (urban) for the Evora S; 9.9 litres / 100km (28.7 mpg) and emissions are 229 g CO2 / km. At time of going to print (September 2011) the fuel economy, CO2 and performance figures for the other vehicles mentioned have not been witness tested. Group Lotus plc will publish these figures as soon as they become available on the lotuscars.com website.

But if you know Lotus then you probably know all this already - what you may not know is that contrary to popular speculation, Lotus is not leaving the Elise behind if anything the Elise is an essential part of the charge into Lotus New Era. Year on year, Lotus has added to the Elise range, tweaking and improving on the much loved entry level sports car and this year is no exception. Making their joint debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show are the all new Elise S and the Elise SPS (Serial Precision Shift) option.

The Evora GTE road car: The most powerful production Lotus road car ever built. Simple.
Producing over 444 PS from the 3.5l V6 Lotus Evora engine, the GTE is, quite simply, the most powerful Lotus road car ever built. Yet contrary to its extreme roots, the Evora GTE road car also delivers a comfortable and refined element to its high performance driving characteristics. Originally created as a special limited edition for the Asian market and designed to celebrate Lotus’ successful entry to the new global motorsport GTE category, the hand built Evora GTE road car has all the attributes you’d expect of an endurance racer including a sequential AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) racing gearbox and lightweight and forged alloy rims with centre lock hubs shod with Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres. Group Lotus can now announce that production will be expanded on the Evora GTE road car to meet demand and reach further markets.
Complimenting the striking exterior is a stunning, modern race-themed interior providing both occupants with the race car thrill without compromising on comfort. Leather and carbon fibre dominate the cabin and lightweight Recaro carbon fibre seats cosset both the passenger and driver giving a sense of security and comfort that mean that any driver of the Evora GTE can really go the distance as they take command of this extraordinary car. Commenting on the Evora GTE road car, Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar said: “The response to this model in China has been so incredible, within days we had sold out with 114 orders. In response we decided that the only logical step from a business perspective was to increase production and widen our reach. “What is unique about this car, is not just that it’s a serious race car it’s a serious car. Group Lotus Chief Executive Officer Dany Bahar said: “We’re really proud of the IPS option for the Evora S - people loved the Evora S and we had a great response to IPS, combining these two was a natural step and we’re delighted with the result. “Nothing has been compromised in the development of this model, it’s a true Lotus through and through with a great drive experience enhanced through the integration of superior technology and typically dynamic Lotus engineering.”

The Lotus Evora, is available in two versions - the Evora and the Evora S and is regarded by some as one of the most exciting and genuinely useable sportscars on the market today. Both cars have a 3.5 litre V6 engine and both produce phenomenal performance so the obvious question is, what’s the difference between the two? The answer in a word is supercharger. The base Evora has 280 PS and tops out at a quick 261 km/h (162 mph) whilst returning an impressive 217 g of CO2 per km. The Evora S has 350 PS (345 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lbft) of torque, courtesy of a supercharger which gives acceleration of 4.8 seconds to 100 km/h (4.6 seconds to 60 mph) and a maximum speed of 277 km/h (172 mph). The Evora S comes with a sport pack as standard featuring a ‘sport’ button which allows the driver to increase throttle response. The sport button also raises the instantaneous rev limit and changes the Dynamic Performance Management (Lotus DPM) settings resulting in a total experience change. There are cross-drilled brakes for improved cooling. And here’s a heads up for those who buy into the old adage ‘you can tell the men from the boys by the size of their toys’: the external emotion of the Evora S has been improved with a completely new active exhaust which means that at the push of a button the car sounds just as dramatic as it feels. Dany Bahar Lotus’ Chief Executive Officer summed it up by saying: “You don’t realise what you were missing from your driving experience until you get behind the wheel of the Evora S.” So apart from the obvious power difference, how is the Evora S different to the Evora? It’s another question we put to the CEO (given that he’s spent a little time behind the wheel, we thought he’d be best placed to answer questions). This is what he said: “It’s the next level of Evora experience. It communicates even more with you, the suspension setting has been fine tuned for added power and control so it responds even more to your direction. It’s an instinctual car, the experience is pure.” Evora IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift) option. This option gives the Evora an automatic 6-speed gearbox with Lotus developed transmission control with a 3.5 l V6 engine delivering 280 PS assuring a superior automatic driving experience. The IPS option of the Evora allows the driver to switch between manual paddle shift and automatic drive modes. The driver also has the option of selecting ‘sport’ mode which showcases the Lotus sport driving experience allowing the driver to really feel each gear shift and be in complete control of the transmission. Commenting on the IPS option, Dany Bahar said: “The Evora IPS broadens the appeal of the Evora and allows us to reach out to a slightly different market. We expect it to be popular with established automatic locations such as Asia, the Middle East and the US. It’s been a long time since Lotus created an automatic and we’ve spent a great deal of time refining this one to make sure that it perfectly compliments the Evora drive experience.” “We are proud of the whole Evora range, each version does the true Lotus experience justice. With a wider selection of options, the Evora will appeal to a broader audience, even those who don’t want to use their left foot to change gear! With higher quality levels, more options available and all round improvements to the whole range, it’s a taste of what people can come to expect from the next generation of Lotus cars - performance through lightweight, style, comfort and efficiency.” Please note: At time of going to print (September 2011) the fuel economy, CO2 and performance figures have not been witness tested. Group Lotus plc will publish these figures as soon as they become available on the lotuscars.com website. |

| The Return Of Lotus To Rally | 13.09.2011 | |
|---|---|---|
|
30 years after World Rally Championship victory in the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus it’s time to welcome Lotus back to rally with the brother of the newly launched Exige S the Exige R-GT.
What better way to demonstrate Lotus’ superior ride and handling than by re-entering the adrenaline filled Rally Championships? Showcasing the new Exige S’ phenomenal performance, the Exige R-GT will participate in the newly formed FIA GT category of the FIA Rally Championship on asphalt in Monte Carlo, Tour de Corse and San Remo. For Group Lotus’ Director of Motorsport Claudio Berro the return to rally has an extra special meaning; “My motorsport career started in rally, in fact, I even took part in the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus’ Italian Rally championship winning a race in San Marino back in 1981 so this is a very nostalgic moment for me. As we unveiled the car in Frankfurt, alongside the original championship winning car, I had the chance to get back inside and the smell was exactly the same it brought back many happy memories for me.
"With the new R-GT rules in rally, it’s a very interesting time for us to return to the sport. Naturally our approach this time around will be different to when we won the championship with Talbot three decades ago but I think our philosophy is definitely the same, we want to compete and ultimately we want to win. Our new rally car, the Exige R-GT is a dream come true for those who are passionate about GT racing this will be their car." The beauty of the Exige R-GT is that although it’s a professionally set up race car, you don’t need to be a pro to drive it the race car has been developed alongside the road car allowing the technical team to create the perfect race machine, high performance but without losing the sense of fun to drive and ease of use. Developing the race version of the Exige in parallel with the road car has allowed the Lotus technicians to make rapid advances in terms of safety and reliability. Claudio Berro commented: “We have learnt a great deal from working with the Evora and creating various race derivatives over the past 18 months particularly how best to adapt a road car for the track and competitive racing. We were able to put this learning to good use with the Exige project. In my mind rally is probably the ultimate motorsport, it combines the excitement of track racing with the specialist skills needed for road racing we really believe it’s one of the best and most straight forward ways to demonstrate the capabilities of our products.” Powered by the same V6 3.5 litre engine as the new road Exige, significant changes have been made to the gearbox and the restrictors on the engine in order to control the power. Lotus will initially partner with several customer teams following the tried and tested method in which Lotus entered IndyCar and returned to Le Mans. Lotus announces its latest charitable donation for the hammer to fall on: a bespoke Evora S for the Mercury Phoenix Trust.
CALLING ALL GIRLS and boys - September 5th will see the Savoy Hotel play host to a very special celebration, the 65th birthday of THE HERO, the late, great Freddie Mercury. DEAR FRIENDS of Freddie will unite in GOOD COMPANY at Freddie’s FLASH birthday bash which is set to be ‘a unique night of comedy and rock and roll’ as the climax to this year’s Freddie For A Day. The highlight of the night will be an auction to raise funds for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, the HIV AIDS charity set-up in his honour by band mates Brian May, Roger Taylor and Queen manager Jim Beach after the singer’s death in 1991. Forget a BICYCLE RACE, on this special occasion FAT BOTTOMED CARS (forgive us Freddie) is what it’s all about as the bespoke Lotus Evora S headlines the auction alongside fantastic donations from Brian May and Roger Taylor, Top Gear, Raymond Weil, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the West End stage hit ‘WE WILL ROCK YOU’. The pearl white MADE IN HEAVEN Evora S with Freddie Mercury inspired theme represents A KIND OF MAGIC combination from the Lotus Design team: the power and prowess of the critically acclaimed Lotus with the dramatic styling befitting of a British rock legend. Featuring deep red and gold highlights this Evora S is well deserving of Freddie’s autograph which is also included in the scheme. The exterior BODY LANGUAGE features a white, red and gold colour scheme inspired by the iconic costume Freddie wore for the 1986 “Magic tour” and features beautiful silver on white iconography. The front fender references the Montreux Freddie memorial statue with the line “Lover of life. Singer of songs” taken from the statue’s inscription. Inside, the one-off yellow interior, also inspired by Freddie’s 1986 stage costume, includes a union flag on the back of the seats and the incorporation of a crown hints at Freddie’s playful royal role-play. And it goes without saying that the sound system or more specifically the RADIO, will send the lucky owner GA GA. Brian May had these words to say of Lotus’ participation: “Our friends at Lotus have donated a stunning Evora S for our auction which I know will be a massive fund-raiser for the Mercury Phoenix Trust. We cannot thank them enough for their generous support on what is a very special occasion for everyone who knew and loved Freddie.” Group Lotus Director of Corporate Operations Gino Rosato said: “We were only too happy to contribute to this fantastic cause. We have created something very special to raise money for Mercury Phoenix Trust and we hope the car goes to a collector who really enjoys it.” Although the auctioneer’s final hammer will not fall until late into the night of September 5th, eager buyers don’t have to leave it in the lap of the gods, they can get their offers in well beforehand at: www.freddieforaday.com/auction

Getting ready for Frankfurt? Our countdown has begun: 3 new cars, 2 new options and 1 special limited edition.
Who: Group Lotus What: See below and there’s a lot so we’ll keep it brief AND we’re not going to tell you everything…. Where: Hall 5, Stand B02 When: 9.00am (CET) Why: Because you can’t get more Lotus than this…. 3 new models One of these is the Elise S and if you were looking for more torque then this pure Lotus is the answer to your prayers. The Elise S replaces the Elise SC with a new 1.8l super charged engine capable of delivering 220 PS and a power delivery which results in even more torque. With the new engine and improved throttle response, the Elise S gives an even more exhilarating and lively drive experience. The more efficient engine results in lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than the outgoing Elise SC. And the other two new models? You’ll have to wait until Frankfurt to find out about those…. But two little hints, one of these models will be one of the quickest road cars Lotus has ever built and the other marks the return of Lotus to another adrenalin filled motorsport discipline. 2 new options One of these is the SPS (Serial Precision Shift), the latest gearbox option available for the 1.6l Elise. The second new option is IPS (Intelligent Precision Shift) on the Evora S which combines all the power and handling of the supercharged Evora S (3.5l V6 delivering 350 PS) with the versatility of an automatic gearbox. The optional paddle shift mode allows the driver the full and uncompromised Evora S experience with the added bonus of switching to automatic mode. This is the most versatile Evora yet. The S IPS will feature in the Evora model year 2012 line-up which has benefited from significant quality improvements following extensive development work and feedback. Both the Elise SPS and the Evora S IPS will feature on the Lotus stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show. 1 special limited edition
All hail the mighty Evora GTE road car. Producing over 444 PS from the race developed Lotus Evora GTE engine, this is, quite simply, the most powerful Lotus road car ever built. Yet contrary to its extreme roots, the Evora GTE road car also delivers a comfortable and refined element to its high performance driving characteristics. Originally designed as a special limited edition for the Asian market, Group Lotus can now announce that production will be expanded on the Evora GTE road car to meet demand and reach further markets. People get so excited when they see and especially hear it for the first time. It’s a very special car and will appeal to a very special type of driver and they won’t be disappointed!” Have we whet your appetite yet? Lotus in Frankfurt more Lotus than ever. See you there. Please note: At time of going to print (September 2011) the fuel economy, CO2 and performance figures have not been witness tested. Group Lotus plc will publish these figures as soon as they become available on the lotuscars.com website. |

Group Lotus add design legend to the Lotus Advisory Council.
Group Lotus is delighted to announce the appointment of Gordon Murray to the Lotus Advisory Council. Murray will work alongside automotive industry icons Bob Lutz, Tom Purves, Prof. Dr. Burkhard Göschel and Frank Tuch to advise Group Lotus on current and future development. The purpose of the Lotus Advisory Council is to give advice and guidance on strategic issues such as product strategy, technology, quality, brand, marketing and distribution for Group Lotus. It’s a little known fact that when Gordon began his motorsport career in 1969 he actually wanted to work for Lotus but a chance meeting with Brabham designer Ron Tauranac lead to him working for Brabham where he was later appointed Chief Designer by team boss Bernie Ecclestone. During his time in F1, Gordon was responsible for designing many Grand Prix winning cars and was heralded by many as leading the way in terms of innovation and pioneering new technologies. More recently Gordon established Gordon Murray Design to develop an innovative and disruptive automotive manufacturing technology trademarked iStream®. The design and prototyping of their T.25 Petrol and T.27 Electric Ultra Compact City Cars has been central to both the development and validation of this process. Commenting on the appointment Group Lotus Chief Executive Dany Bahar said: “Gordon has never been afraid to trail blaze, take risks and do things differently, these are attribute that we are very familiar with and very proud of at Lotus. With his incredible and unique motorsport and design experience he will complement the existing council line up perfectly. We’re very much looking forward to working with him." Gordon Murray said: “For years I’ve been a huge admirer of Lotus, I have great respect for the legacy that Colin Chapman created and I think what Dany and the team are doing is a really good thing for the brand. He’s taking the strength from Chapman’s principals and taking the business to the next level whilst still keeping the general ethos not an easy task! I’m really looking forward to contributing to Group Lotus during this exciting time.” |

Group Lotus asks: What’s your vice?
All three delicacies can be made into alcohol (ethanol) fuel to power the Lotus Exige 270E, one of the high tech ecological and environmental research sports cars from Lotus Engineering. At the 2011 Bridgestone Eco Rally from Oxford to London, this weekend, Lotus will be proving that you can have your (cheese) cake and eat it this stunning high tech sports car has both high performance and ultra low environmental impact. When running on ethanol, this super quick Exige slingshots to 60 mph in less than four seconds and is one of the quickest road legal cars in the world as well as one of the most environmental. But all you gourmands need not worry, Lotus is not wasting any of Bordeaux’s finest, or depriving cheese lovers from their mature stilton. No, the ethanol fuel is made from wine that doesn’t quite make drinking grade, from whey (a natural by product of the cheese making process) and from surplus chocolate you shouldn’t eat too much, eh? Should you not be able to get hold of any ethanol, then the super efficient Exige 270E will also run on conventional petrol, and on methanol a potential fuel of the future as it can be made by extracting CO2 from the atmosphere, making it the ultimate carbon neutral fuel. So what is your vice? At Group Lotus, it’s all three, but only in moderation and mostly in the fuel tank!

The Carabinieri select British manufacturer Lotus to provide rapid response vehicles in Rome and Milan.
As Italy celebrates 150 years of unification, Group Lotus celebrates an exciting cooperation with the country as two Evora S models have been selected for a very special military duty. The headquarters of the Carabinieri in Rome played host to the event where two bespoke Lotus Evora S cars were handed over by Group Lotus Chief Executive Officer Dany Bahar. The Arma dei Carabinieri, a division of the Italian army, play a similar role in Italy to Scotland Yard in the UK and work with the civilian police to provide a crucial service to the public. The Evora S models will be made available to the units based in Rome and Milan. In preparation for the two year stint with the Carabinieri, both Evoras have been equipped with some of the very latest voice recognition technology including the EVA (Enhanced Vehicle Automation) system. A special portable refrigeration compartment has been fitted behind the front seats which will allow for the rapid transport of vital organs and blood required during medical emergencies. Commenting at the handover event Group Lotus Chief Executive Officer Dany Bahar said: “We are extremely proud to be working with such an iconic and professional organisation as the Carabinieri who play an integral role in Italian society.” “Everyone knows that Italy has more than it’s fair share of high profile sports car manufacturers so it is a real honour for a relatively small British brand to be in this position. The feedback from the driver training on the Evora S at our test track was very positive, it’s such a responsive car to drive, I think the teams in Rome and Milan are really going to feel the benefit of working with our product.” Carabinieri spokesperson, Colonel Marco Minicucci said: “Our special Lotus Evoras combine the very best of our technology with excellent British engineering from Lotus. Not just anyone can drive these cars, we carefully selected some of our team to attend a driver training session at the new test track at Lotus’ headquarters in Hethel, Norfolk where they learnt all about the very special characteristics and incredible potential of the cars.”

Business Secretary Vince Cable visits Group Lotus and takes time to put the Evora S to the test at the newly opened race track.
Hot on the heels of the Malaysian Prime Minister’s visit on Saturday (16 July), Secretary of State for Business, Vince Cable took time to visit Group Lotus’ headquarters in Hethel today. During his tour of the facilities, Vince Cable was shown the design and styling studio with the future product line up as well as the current car production lines. Commenting on his visit to Group Lotus, Dr Vince Cable said: “Lotus is a very successful company, it’s doing very well exporting a lot with a lot of ambition. I’ve seen the new models and I believe that this is the best of British industry with very high levels of skill and engineering quality. Through its cars, motorsport and engineering divisions Lotus makes a key contribution to the UK automotive sector and the wider economy through the exports of its iconic cars and its world-class design engineering consultancy. It wasn’t all hard work and business talk though, undoubtedly the highlight of his visit was a chance to show off his driving skills behind the wheel of an Evora S on Lotus’ Hethel based test track. Speaking about his track time in the Evora S he said: “It was absolutely great, it’s a wonderful car, very manoeuvrable and great fun and of course very fast. When I was a teenager I used to go to aerodromes in Yorkshire where the first generation of Chapman’s Lotus cars competed with Jim Clarke at the wheel so this is really a life time ambition I’ve fulfilled here.”
“I welcome the growth and change in Lotus, it’s a vote of confidence in the UK and in their work force, they have very high quality people here doing apprenticeships and they clearly believe in what they’re doing and they make great products so I really wish them well.” Group Lotus Chief Executive Officer Dany Bahar said: “It’s a pleasure to meet with Dr Cable and his fellow MPs today, the success of automotive industry is very important to the British economy so it’s good to see the support of the British government here.” Vince Cable was accompanied by fellow MPs Richard Bacon (MP for South Norfolk), Norman Lamb (MP for North Norfolk) and Simon Wright (MP for Norwich South). |

YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak is confident of Group Lotus future success.
Group Lotus’ Hethel headquarters played host to the honourable Prime Minister of Malaysia today as he took time to discover the latest developments and progress made at the facility. Along with a presentation of key achievements, Group Lotus also had the opportunity to present its five year business plan . After a tour of the design studio, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak was shown the production line before experiencing first hand the recently opened test track in an Evora IPS. Speaking at the end of his visit the Prime Minister of Malaysia said: “To be honest, when I first learnt of the future plans for Lotus, I felt a small degree of scepticism due to the level of investment required but now I’m going home as a strong supporter of the turnaround plan. I’d like to categorically say that Group Lotus has the endorsement of the Malaysian Government and Khazanah.” “With the current plan in place, I can see that the level of professionalism is high, enthusiasm and morale are high too and I have a sense that the business plan is more than achievable. It might be bold and ambitious or even audacious but there is nothing like the motivation that comes from setting such high targets, with this situation you can strive and go the extra mile and achieve what you may not otherwise be able to achieve. I wish Group Lotus all the best, good luck and this definitely won’t be the last time I visit.”
Commenting on the visit Group Lotus Chief Executive Officer Dany Bahar said: “It is a real pleasure and honour for us to have the Prime Minister of Malaysia here. I think it’s very important that he can see how much things have changed here and get a real feel for the future direction of Group Lotus. Not only can the honourable Prime Minister see the physical changes that have been made at Hethel but his time here also allows him to get an even greater understanding of the future business plan.”
The visit to Group Lotus makes up part of the Prime Minister’s inaugural visit to the United Kingdom since taking office in 2009. |

| All Hail "The Style of Speed" | 13.07.2011 | |

Issue three of the Lotus Magazine hits the shelves paying homage to Lotus’ most powerful trademarks: competitive spirit, visionary car design and inspired engineering.
Issue 3 has arrived and with it comes a celebration of 50 years of Lotus Design culminating in "Street Cars named Desire", a stunning retrospective photo feature spread over 40 glorious pages presenting a selection of the most iconic models ever made. “Lotus, the Crown Jewel of British Style” piece sees Deyan Sudjic, Director of the London Design Museum pays respect to Lotus design brilliance. Photographic wunderkind and Vogue regular Maciek Kobielski explores the “Style of Speed” by going behind the scenes with the Lotus Renault GP F1 team. The results are clear and his 20 page paddock portfolio "Amazing Race" captures the comeback of Group Lotus to the pinnacle of four wheeled racing. But what does speed have to do with style? F1 drivers have always been heroes of their time - and some would argue style icons, so we invited Maciek to spend some time with LRGP drivers Nick Heidfeld, Bruno Senna and cover star Vitaly Petrov along with the F1 team during the Malaysian Grand Prix we think you’ll enjoy the results. And speaking of exclusive access, reaching behind the scenes is part of what makes the Lotus Magazine special and issue 3 is no exception. Remember "Basic Instinct"? How could you not? But would you believe that it’s been 20 years since the Hollywood premiere yet Sharon Stone's co-star - the iconic Lotus Esprit SE which featured in the thick of the action remains unforgettable? In our “Sex Drive” feature Hollywood writer Fred Schruers shares his memories and gives us as a unique insight into the film production. And it doesn’t stop there, our commitment to going behind the scenes sinks to new depths with issue 3 as we go on a journey with real life Indiana Jones, Franck Goddio, the legendary French explorer. Most famous for his ground breaking discovery of the 2000-year-old city of Herakleion on the sea bed, he takes time out to talk to French writer Olivier Guez about his incredible adventures. Last but by no means least, continuing our theme of style and speed, we celebrate the life and times of the late great Ayrton Senna - the legendary F1 ‘God’ and who better to do him justice then British veteran journalist and F1 Paddock regular Maurice Hamilton. And if all that’s not enough for you, Hollywood actor Kevin Bacon takes part in our cult-regular "Driving Test" with some surprising results. Kevin Bacon and a Volvo, who knew? Want more? | Group Lotus Fires Up For The Ultimate Garden Party | 02.07.2011 | |
|---|---|---|
|
The Goodwood Festival of Speed kicks off today, so pour yourself a Pimm’s and reach for the ear defenders because Lotus has a major presence at the world’s biggest car culture event, set in the immaculate grounds of Goodwood House.
Blasting up Goodwood’s historic hill climb will be a heady mix of Lotus road and track cars, both old and new. Formula One drivers Vitaly Petrov and Bruno Senna will wow the crowds in their black and gold Lotus Renault GP cars, while 1992 world champion and Lotus ambassador Nigel Mansell drives his 1983 Type 94T, and Martin Donnelly is reunited with his 1990 Type 102 the car that nearly ended his career. The hill climb will also see the latest Evora S, its sibling, the Evora GT4 race car, and the F1-inspired T125, which has been developed by our works drivers and grand prix legend Jean Alesi to give customers the full F1 experience. Classic Team Lotus have prepared a selection of priceless machines for the event, including Graham Hill’s Monaco ’68 winning Type 49 and the 1963 Type 25 that took Jim Clark to seven grands prix victories. In pride of place on the Group Lotus stand, Ayrton Senna’s JPS-liveried Type 97T is a must-see for every fan of the Brazilian icon. Chassis no.2 was a special car for Ayrton, because it was in this very machine that he took his first grand prix win and, in his own opinion, his best. Up on stage, there will be an open mic session each day at 10.30am and 2pm, MC’d by BBC Radio Five Live F1 commentator David Croft. On Friday, Vitaly Petrov, GT4 team manager Gary Ayles, and works driver Ollie Jackson field questions. Saturday and Sunday sees Petrov joined by Bruno Senna and Nigel Mansell. Each afternoon, Clive Chapman will join the panel, and on Sunday KV Racing Technology-Lotus driver EJ Viso will be there to talk IndyCar racing. Group Lotus has a pavilion at Goodwood this year, where guests can raise a glass to the past, present and future of our road car range: The Elise Club Racer, Evora S and brand new Evora IPS are joined by a 2002 Esprit V8. And there’s a very rare chance to see the white prototype 2013 Esprit which first stunned the world at the Paris Motor Show last autumn, and which has put the road markings down for the company’s exciting new era. Group Lotus’ Motorsport Director, Claudio Berro, is thrilled to be bringing so many Lotus models to the Festival of Speed: “Goodwood is a truly special event and the essence of British motorsport. As such, it stands to reason that Lotus feels at home on Lord March’s beautiful estate, and we are really looking forward to joining Lotus’ drivers, past and present, and our supporters for a wonderful automotive celebration. The Festival of Speed is the perfect entrée to next weekend’s British Grand Prix, so this is an important and exciting week for us and one we will certainly enjoy.” |

| Lotus Legends Unveil New Hethel Track | 23.06.2011 | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
Nigel Mansell officially opened Group Lotus’s revised and restored Hethel test track with a roar from the 1981 Essex-Lotus 81B in which he started his glorious Formula One career more than 30-years-ago.
Mansell led a convoy of seven stunning racing cars from the Lotus stable, including the innovative 1980 Type 88 twin-chassis car which the rule makers never allowed to race; the Lotus Type 125 Exos Experience car driven by fellow F1 legend Jean Alesi; and a brace of Lotus Renault GP cars piloted by current F1 stars Vitaly Petrov and Bruno Senna. This was the first time that modern-era F1 cars had blasted around the historic Hethel tarmac since the early 1990s. The layout of the 2.2 mile circuit had changed very little, with one extra corner added, but the new asphalt and larger run off areas are better suited to modern racing and performance car testing. Its mixture of corners, straight and braking zones makes it ideal for testing and optimizing every performance aspect of the new era of Lotus products, and evaluating car control at the Lotus Driving Academy. In addition to a spacious new workshop, the test track will soon be accompanied by a new pit building and hospitality suite. Dany Bahar, Group Lotus CEO said: “A year ago we set out our plans to introduce a new model line up, ambitious motorsport plans and a revitalization of the iconic Lotus brand. A year in, we are meeting all the targets and milestones we set ourselves. One of the milestones was the opening of our test track. You might say this is just a refurbishment of a track and not a major achievement in itself, and I agree. However, mentally and psychologically seeing this project accomplished demonstrates that step-by-step our vision is becoming a reality. It shows our entire workforce and our partners that we are delivering on our promises.” Nigel Mansell, Group Lotus ambassador and 1992 Formula One World Champion said: “What a joy it was to be reunited with my old 81B after 30 years. This is a very special place, Hethel, and it was wonderful to open the circuit today by driving alongside my sons Leo and Greg.” Clive Chapman, Managing Director of Classic Team Lotus said: “I remember my father testing the Lotus 49 on this circuit. He didn’t wear a helmet and you could see him grinning from ear to ear because he knew he had another winner. The circuit’s longest straight doubled as a runway, and we would land here in my father’s plane after adventurous and race tracks around the world. The revised circuit has managed to keep a lot of the character of the original, and seeing those seven cars lapping today is something I shall never forget. Lotus is enjoying exciting times once again, and it fills me with pride when I see brand new Lotus’s around the world still bearing my father’s initials.” Jean Alesi, Group Lotus ambassador and F1 legend said: “It’s extremely fast. The first time I went out I was surprised about the length of the straights, but then of course it’s not only for motor sport but for testing road cars. The layout is perfect for that. It’s a proper test track. Today I drove Lotus’ customer F1-experience car, the T125. The development of this car is ongoing, and very very promising. James Rossiter is doing a great job helping to develop the car, and will make this new track his home. I shall be validating these tests.” Bruno Senna, Lotus Renault GP third driver said: “Vitaly [Petrov] and I got to chase each other around in our F1 cars today, which was awesome. It’s a really fun, technical track designed to test the car’s handling and braking. I guess this is the first time in many years that a contemporary F1 car has been driven around here. The relationship I have with Group Lotus is very special, to be given the opportunity by these guys who trust my abilities and what I can bring to the team. And we have family history, of course. Ayrton [Senna] made his name with Colin Chapman, and so there is a lot to be grateful to Lotus for. For me, to drive this circuit where my uncle used to test his cars, is a special feeling.” James Rossiter, Lotus Motorsport factory driver said: “The circuit has been completely resurfaced and extended. Now there’s a lot more track and you can push harder thanks to that. The thing that makes it so perfect for Lotus is that it has every aspect of corner you can imagine; high speed, medium speed; slow speed; changes of direction at a steady-state, decelerating, and accelerating; you’ve got a massive braking area at the end of a long straight, with a tight chicane; there are two 190 degree corners, which are long, open and steady-state. So it has a little bit of everything, which is ideal for developing every aspect of a performance car.” Karl Heinz Kalbfell, Group Lotus Operations spokesperson and former CEO of Rolls Royce Motor Cars and Maserati said: “Every time I come back here to see the changes, both in infrastructure and the product, and to see people here driven by Lotus’s inspirational goals, it gives me a lot of confidence that we are all on the right track. This is exactly what Colin Chapman would have wanted. He was a man always looking forward, not backwards.” |

Lotus China Symphony (Lotus China) is based in Beijing and will offer a full customer sales, service and ownership experience for customers in China and will embark on comprehensive marketing activities focused on increasing the presence and perception of Lotus in China. The full range of high performance Lotus cars will be available in China, the award-winning Lotus Evora, the iconic Lotus Elise and the stunning Exige. Lotus China has initially ordered 100 cars, with the Evora accounting for the majority of these first customer cars, with the remainder being Elise and Exige. This ensures that the exclusivity of the iconic Lotus brand is maintained in such an important market.
Dany Bahar, Chief Executive of Group Lotus said, “Lotus China has joined the Lotus family at a very exciting time - with a new range of sports and super cars on the way, which will complement the current globally selling range, and a new all encompassing motorsports programme, both of which ensure that Lotus is at the forefront of everyone mind as one of the world’s most desirable car brands. I would like to thank Lotus for this opportunity and I know that we will do the brand proud in this important market!" Lotus China is based in Beijing and will open its first dealership in the capital in October, followed by dealerships in Shanghai, Chongqing and Guangzhou later in the year. Eight further dealerships are planned for 2012. The Lotus badge for cars sold in China includes the addition “NYO” lettering (pronounced like the word “new”) to symbolise the importance of the British company’s official entry into China. |

| Three Questions with Dany Bahar | 03.06.2011 |
|---|---|
|
In what will be a regular update on our progress, and after an action packed couple of weeks, the Group Lotus Chief Executive Officer takes time out to answer some questions…
Following the result of the naming rights court case, is there an update regarding Group Lotus’ F1 involvement? Dany Bahar: The judgement grants Group Lotus the rights to use the name 'Lotus' and the Lotus roundel on their own within F1, we are, therefore, even more committed than ever before to our long term plan within the sport. The Judge also found that Team Lotus, run by 1Malaysia Racing Team, has the right to continue to race in F1 under the name Team Lotus and using the Team Lotus roundel. As a consequence, it is inevitable that the similarity of the names Lotus and Team Lotus will cause confusion not only amongst F1 supporters and the wider public, but also amongst F1 commentators who use the word ‘Lotus’ interchangeably for both teams as demonstrated throughout the season so far. With the full support of our parent company, Proton, we are seeking leave to appeal so that this point can be clarified for the benefit of all interested in F1. With regards to our involvement with Lotus Renault GP, as Lotus we stand united with Genii Capital and have every confidence in the future success of Lotus Renault GP. This must have also been an interesting time for your parent company Proton. Does this have an impact on your relationship? DB: They have followed the court case with great interest and like us, they are looking forward to the matter being brought to a close. More importantly than the on-going F1 naming issues, the past year has been an extremely important one in Group Lotus’ history and Proton has played, and continue to play, a crucial role in our development. One of the most critical elements of this support has been assisting us in securing the funding for our future plans. I am happy to confirm that this is now all complete thanks to Proton’s help and, together with Proton, we can focus on completing the five year business plan to return Group Lotus to profit. We have an incredibly strong relationship with Proton, they support us 100 per cent and frankly this is really important for a company like ours. Part of the business plan is the joint development of a global small car platform meaning that for the first time in the Proton Lotus history, the relationship will be mutually beneficial. This alone should demonstrate how close we are. With F1 and a complete new car line up, there seems to be a lot going on at Group Lotus, what’s the status regarding Lotus Cars and your activity in motorsport generally? DB: With road cars we’re in a good position, we’ve completed year one of a five year plan and we are making good progress on the development of the new Esprit which will be the first of the new models to go on sale. Based on the feedback we have received since the unveiling in With regard to motorsport, everyone always asks about F1 but for us, it’s not just about F1, given that motorsport in general is a key ingredient to our marketing strategy. We have always been and will always be an automotive brand that is associated with racing. Congratulations to Nick Heidfeld on his result in |

... Strength Of Relationship With Proton
Following several incorrect reports in the media, Group Lotus Chief Executive Officer Dany Bahar sets the record straight regarding Group Lotus’ relationship with majority shareholder Proton Holdings Bhd. Dany Bahar said: “The past year has been an extremely important one in Group Lotus’ history and Proton has played and continue to play a crucial role in our development. One of the most critical elements of this support has been assisting us in securing the funding for our future plans. I am happy to confirm that this is now all complete thanks to Proton’s help and together with Proton we can focus on completing the five year business plan to return Group Lotus to profit.” “Despite recent media reports which seem to suggest that we are looking at alternative partners for the future, I’m happy to confirm that this is absolutely not the case. We have an incredible relationship with Proton, they back us 100 per cent and frankly speaking this is really important when you face challenging issues such as securing funding for our business plan. Group Lotus could not ask for a better share holder.” “Part of the business plan is the joint development of a global small car platform meaning that for the first time in the Proton Lotus history, the relationship will be mutually beneficial. This alone should demonstrate how close we are.” |

| Group Lotus Wins On Key Issues In Formula 1 Naming Dispute | 28.05.2011 |
|---|---|
|
Mr. Justice Peter Smith today gave his judgement in the dispute between Group Lotus plc and Team Lotus, Tony Fernandes and others in respect of the right to use the name “Lotus” in Formula 1.
Judgement Summary: • Group Lotus has the right to use the name “Lotus” on its own within Formula 1 • Group Lotus entitled to race in the historic black and gold livery • 1Malaysia Racing Team (1MRT) ruled to be in breach of licence agreement, Group Lotus awarded damages • Team Lotus Ventures Limited trademarks revoked for non-use • Group Lotus trade marks unaffected • Group Lotus has the right to use the Lotus marque on cars for road use The Judge found that: Group Lotus has goodwill associated with the name “Lotus” in Formula 1 and is free to compete in the sport under that name using the Lotus roundel. Group Lotus is entitled to race in F1 using the historic black and gold livery. 1MRT is in breach of the Licence granted to them by Group Lotus to race in F1 under the name Lotus Racing and has awarded Group Lotus damages in respect of that breach. Team Lotus Ventures Limited’s trade mark registrations in the name of Team Lotus are cancelled as a result of non-use. Group Lotus trade mark registrations are unaffected. Group Lotus has the right to use the Lotus marque on cars for road use. The Judge also found that Team Lotus has the right to continue to race in Formula 1 under the name Team Lotus but the effect of the Judgment is that only Group Lotus can use the name “Lotus” on its own in F1. Group Lotus is concerned that this aspect of the Judgment will cause confusion in the eyes of spectators and the wider public. Accordingly, Group Lotus is seeking leave to appeal so that the right to use the Lotus brand in Formula 1 is clarified once and for all in the interests of the sport and the fans. Group Lotus and its shareholder Proton Holding Bhd are confident of success on appeal. Speaking after the judgement, Sarah Price, Head of Legal, Group Lotus plc said: "Group Lotus is pleased that its right to race under the Lotus name in F1 has been upheld and that the Defendants’ attempts to stop that have failed. “The on-going dispute with Team Lotus and associated companies has been a cause for concern for all at Group Lotus. Despite the detailed judgment there are issues which still require clarification and we remain committed to obtaining this much needed clarity for the many fans of the Lotus marque - we are extremely grateful for their continued support. The decision to appeal has not been taken lightly.” |

Experience what Rock legend Brian May eloquently describes as 'Anthemic-Orchestral-Rock-Musical-Theatre Fusion'
Group Lotus are proud to announce a rocking new partnership with 'Anthems', a collection of concerts starring legendary Queen star Brian May and West End and Broadway singing sensation, Kerry Ellis (We Will Rock You, Wicked, Chess in Concert and Oliver!). Under the creative direction of Brian May, this series of unique productions provides the perfect opportunity to experience Anthems, the stunning hit debut album from Kerry Ellis produced by Brian May. In addition to performing Anthems, the concerts feature an opening set from American ‘soul rock’ sensation Vintage Trouble and will also include May's special rock-orchestral settings of songs and new material. Group Lotus decided to partner the concerts after working closely with Brian last year when he played an integral role in the unveiling of Lotus' future model line-up as he joined supermodel Naomi Campbell to unveil the new Lotus Esprit, the eagerly anticipated incarnation of the iconic British supercar. Commenting on the relationship, Group Lotus Director of Corporate Operations Gino Rosato, said: "I've had the pleasure of working with Brian May many times over the years and when he told us about the concept for the Anthems concerts, we were happy to show our support for what we think will be a collection of really special music events. At Lotus we believe passionately in brand experience rather than traditional advertising, this activity by association is an extension of this policy." Brian May said: "I have a lot of affection for Group Lotus and I'm really happy that we can work together on Anthems. I'm happy to support what the team at Lotus is doing to return the iconic British sportscar marque to the forefront of people’s minds. Now seems like the perfect time to be working together." Speaking about the concerts he added: "Kerry Ellis is acknowledged as a phenomenon, equally at home in Musical Theatre and Rock. I was convinced from the moment she brought the character of Meat to life in 'We Will Rock You', nine years ago, that she was destined to be a worldwide star. The challenge was to develop songs and arrangements to allow that amazing voice to reach its true potential. I feel we have now achieved this together on 'Anthems: The Concert'. It's a kind of Anthemic-Orchestral-Rock-Musical-Theatre Fusion! But the key is the passion in that unique voice." After kicking off at the Royal Albert Hall followed by an appearance at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall the remaining Anthems tour schedule is as follows:

And now some more details about those all important stars of the show…… About the Evora S: Like the standard Evora, the Evora S has a 3.5 litre V6 engine and produces seamless performance. The supercharged Evora S has 350 PS (345 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lbft) of torque, courtesy of a supercharger which gives acceleration of 4.8 seconds to 100 km/h (4.6 seconds to 60 mph) and a maximum speed of 277 km/h (172 mph). The Evora S comes with a sport pack as standard featuring a ‘sport’ button which allows the driver to control throttle response and activate the exhaust by-pass valve*. The sport button also raises the instantaneous rev limit and changes the dynamic stability control settings resulting in a total experience change. The external emotion of the Evora S has been improved with a completely new active exhaust which means that at the push of a button the car sounds just as dramatic as it feels. Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar says: “It’s the next level of Evora experience. The Evora S communicates even more with you, with extra power and control the car responds even more to your direction. It’s an instinctual car, the experience is pure.” About the Evora IPS: The IPS version of the Evora allows the driver to switch between manual paddle shift and automatic drive modes. The driver also has the option of selecting ‘sport’ mode which showcases the Lotus sport driving experience allowing the driver to really feel each gear shift and be in complete control of the transmission. Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar says: “The Evora IPS is set to broaden the appeal of the Evora and reach out to a slightly different market. We expect it will be popular with established automatic locations such as Asia, the Middle East and the US. It’s been a long time since Lotus created an automatic and we’ve spent a great deal of time refining this one to make sure that it perfectly complements the Evora drive experience.” About the RGB Exige: The limited edition RGB Exige also featured on the stand, named in honour of one of Lotus’ most prominent old boys, former Director of Vehicle Engineering Roger George Becker. In celebration of his 44 years of service, which included doubling for Roger Moore’s James Bond in The Spy Who Loved Me, Lotus created a special edition of the Exige and Elise which both benefit from some Becker-inspired modifications. For the technically minded out there, the RGB Exige uses the range topping 260 PS (257 hp) supercharged and an intercooled 1.8l engine which allows this lightweight sportscar a 0-60 mp/h in around four seconds and an impressive aerodynamic downforce figure of 92.5 lbs (42 kg) at 100 mph (160 km/h). The Exige RGB is available in four colours, Aspen White, Starlight Black, Solar Yellow & Carbon Grey and each one is identified by a numbered interior plaque, Roger Becker’s signature on the side of the bodywork and special monochrome Lotus nose badge. About the Esprit: The new Esprit will be powered by a 5.0 litre V8 pressure charged engine delivering up to 620 PS. The Esprit retains exceptional performance through it’s unique lightweight design making it the ultimate expression of Lotus supercar ownership. It is the supercar that will redefine ride and handling, performance, comfort and exclusivity. The styling of the Esprit echos the performance with strong lines throughout the sleek low body. The symmetry through the mass and proportion of the Esprit give it an intense look, it’s the perfect example of the new Lotus DNA in action. Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar says: “Not only does the Esprit look incredible but it will have the performance to match. We’ve stuck to the Lotus core values of performance through lightweight and teamed them with future technology and exceptional engineering to ensure that the Esprit will be the leader of the pack. The design is aggressive, you have to see it to appreciate how low and wide the proportions are but it still retains a level of dignity, of class and most of all exclusivity. I’m very proud of this car.” |

Spring 2011 issue of proActive magazine now available
Having been at Lotus Engineering for over a year now it is great to be able to say that as a division we are on track with the five year plan and going from strength to strength. Over the last year we have expanded the headcount across our global engineering teams and have been joined by a new Head of European Sales, Martin Elbs and a new General Manager in China, Hui Zhang. We have huge expectations for China over the next five years. A new office in Germany will be opened in the coming months as part of our continuing strategy to increase our presence in important markets. More recently we have just had a very successful Geneva motor show, with high levels of media interest in Lotus Engineering. This year at Geneva we unveiled the cutaway 414Evolution series hybrid technology demonstrator. The new exciting technology on this car included the production design Ranger Extender engine that has been developed with our partners Fagor Ederlan and also our latest pedestrian safety system using the HALOsonic active noise control technology integrated with a camera-based driver assistance system. Generally confidentiality means that we cannot talk about the third party projects we undertake, though we are proud to be able to make public our recent work on the 102EX Rolls Royce Phantom Experimental Electric unveiled at Geneva. Lotus Engineering designed and developed the full electric drivetrain for this vehicle and the project exemplifies our technical expertise in Electrical and Electronic Integration. This Phantom Experimental Electric has been a great advert for Lotus Engineering and we now have to continue to build on all our successes of last year and further grow our business. I am incredibly excited about the year ahead Dr. Robert Hentschel - Director of Lotus Engineering

| Jean Alesi Talks About The Australian Grand Prix Result | 22.04.2011 |
|---|---|
|
F1 legend and Group Lotus brand ambassador Jean Alesi gives his thoughts on the Australian Grand Prix.
What do you think about Vitaly's performance in Melbourne? It's a superb result for him and Lotus Renault GP. To be the very first Russian driver on the podium must also feel incredible. What's also great is that his result came from good strong driving, rather than from the mistakes of others, this is a great sign of his potential. The result will give him a good confidence boost too. After the difficult pre season with Robert Kubica's accident, what do you think a result like this will mean to the team? An incident such as the one LRGP had with Robert is a disaster for any team however I think what the result in Australia clearly demonstrates is how much progress the team have made with the car. Their hard work has definitely paid off. Watching the race, Robert will have seen how strong the car is and I'm sure he will see this as a very good sign for the team. How emotional was it for you to see the return of the iconic black and gold livery? Very emotional. When we unveiled the livery back in January at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, everyone was really excited just to see the colours again and be reminded of the great drivers such as Ayrton Senna. The colours are fantastic but it's the results that make the real difference and for me, this combination is amazing! You're the F1 spokesperson for Group Lotus, how exciting is a result like this for Group Lotus? It's incredibly exciting. To be just a few laps away from the end of the race with one of your drivers heading for the podium is a wonderful feeling. The team and drivers have worked exceptionally hard during testing and we're are very happy with the results. Keep up the good work and let's see what we can achieve in Malaysia! |

New Lotus Sport UK Team take on the British GT Championship
Lotus Motorsport announces a tie up with the new race team Lotus Sport UK to contest the 2011 British GT Championship with two Lotus Evora GT4 race cars. Finished in the striking colours of Lotus Motorsport Green with a yellow twin stripe bisecting the car from front to rear, the Lotus Evora GT4 run by Lotus Sport UK is powered by a 4 litre 360 hp V6 transverse version of the engine used in the multi-award winning Lotus Evora. Lotus Sport UK begins the assault on the 2011 British GT Championship at the season opener at Oulton Park, Cheshire, on Monday 25 April 2011 (Easter Monday). The team will also race at select rounds of the European GT4 championships. Gary Ayles, Team Principal for Lotus Sport UK and former BTCC and Le Mans racer, is also looking forward to the season: “We’re delighted to be working with Lotus. The Evora GT4 package is a high performer, and with proven reliability, I’m very optimistic that we will be competitive throughout the season. Coupled with the appointment of Ollie Jackson, who is the current Porsche Carrera Cup Pro Am 1 Cup Champion, I think we have a good chance to take the winners laurels this year. We will announce the rest of the driver line-up closer to the first race.” Claudio Berro, Director of Group Lotus Motorsport, is confident for the season ahead: “Following an extensive period of development and durability testing last year, 2011 is the first full year of competition for the GT4. Despite this, the Lotus Evora GT4 already gained credibility at the Nürburgring round of the GT4 Championships last year, followed by the Brit Car 24hrs and more recently this year at the Dubai 24 hour event, so I am confident that this season will be a good one for us!” “Our development team is hand picked from some of the finest sports and GT drivers in the world, so this car not only has the stunning looks of a winner but the pedigree to match.”

... Electrical Integration Expertise for Ultra Luxury Vehicle.
Lotus Engineering, a company with over 20 years of EV and HEV experience, has been responsible for all aspects of the electric drivetrain integration for 102EX, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Experimental Electric. This includes the largest battery pack fitted to a road car, together with an innovative 7 kW induction charging system. These components and the electric drivetrain have been integrated by Lotus Engineering into the existing Phantom electrical systems, giving an efficient electrical propulsion control strategy and retaining full vehicle functionality. Lotus Engineering has a broad expertise in vehicle design, manufacture and development. For the Phantom Experimental Electric project Lotus Engineering provided engineering services in the areas of: drivetrain layout, vehicle simulation, Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), component specification, vehicle build, control strategy, control integration, procurement, commissioning and development testing. This project highlights the technical competence in Electrical and Electronic Integration and the capability and range of consultancy services offered by Lotus Engineering. The Phantom Experimental Electric has two electric motors to replace the 6.75 litre V12 engine. These electric motors each produce 145 kW of power to provide a total 290 kW and torque of 800 Nm giving a 0 - 100 km/h time of under eight seconds and a top speed limited to 160 km/h. In the conversion of a Phantom into an electric vehicle a study was conducted to ensure that the optimum layout of the electric drivetrain and ancillaries was achieved with no intrusion into passenger compartment. Following an iterative design study the 71 kWh, 640 kg lithium ion battery pack was placed under the bonnet where the engine had been. The two motors, gearbox and inverters were located behind the rear seats in the original fuel tank bay, with power cables running longitudinally between the converters and the battery. This has enabled the Phantom Experimental Electric to retain its 50:50 weight distribution and characteristic Rolls-Royce driving experience. The Rolls-Royce Phantom is a complex vehicle with many advanced electrical systems. The integration of the electric drivetrain and ancillaries with the existing vehicle control unit provided the greatest challenge for the project. To compound this the Phantom Experimental Electric features the additional complexity of a 3 mode charging system (single phase, three phase and the inductive power transfer) together with a two level driver selectable regenerative braking system. Dr Robert Hentschel, Director of Lotus Engineering, said “The Rolls-Royce Phantom Experimental Electric is an extremely advanced vehicle. I am delighted that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has recognised Lotus Engineering’s world class engineering capability and chosen us to be a part of this project. We have taken a great deal of pride working for such a prestigious ultra luxury brand and I believe that this project illustrates the technical competency of Lotus Engineering in Electrical and Electronic Integration and the capability to apply our expertise to a wide range of applications and types of vehicle”. |

Geneva shows that there's no time like the present to go Lotus.
14.15 CET was the time, the Lotus Stand at the Geneva Motor Show was the place. La Roux's 'In For The Kill' set the scene as the backing track for the Lotus update movie that showed the progress at the head quarters in Hethel during which Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar reiterated the importance of the task in hand saying: “2010 was the dawn of a new era for Lotus, in 2011 the vision comes to life”. Time has been the theme for Lotus so far. Whilst the Paris Motor Show with the unveiling of five new models was all about the future, Geneva was all about the here and now. Alongside reminding people of what's yet to come for Lotus, the Geneva Motor Show provided the perfect opportunity to showcase what's currently on offer, starting with the unveiling of the new 1.6l Lotus Elise Club Racer. In a move that's bound to please the lightweight lovers, the Lotus engineers managed to shave off up to 24kg from the iconic lightweight sports car. This plus the addition of Lotus DPM (Dynamic Performance Management) mode equate to the perfect car for soaking up the spring sunshine. Sharing the stage with the Elise Club Racer were the latest editions to the award winning Evora family, the Evora S, the Evora IPS and the Lotus Concept Bespoke, a unique collaboration on the Evora S between Lotus Design and customisation specialists Mansory. Commenting on the Lotus Concept Bespoke, Lotus Director of Design, Donato Coco said: ”The customised Evora showcases the future potential of Lotus product individualisation. We want to test the water first before committing to a full tailoring strategy, feedback here is a really important part of the process. Working with Mansory has been a good experience and we're pleased with the results, but our opinion isn't necessarily what sells cars, let's see what the public think.” Lotus Renault GP were out in force to show their support at the show, drivers Nick Heidfeld, Vitaly Petrov and Bruno Senna were on stage with the stunning black and gold liveried F1 car. Whilst at the show the team took time to check out the other black and gold stunner, the Evora Enduro - GT Concept, the base car for Lotus' GT2/GTE Le Mans challenger. In an earlier GT4 Endurance variant, this car enjoyed phenomenal success in it's first few outings with a recent podium finish in the hands of Nigel Mansell's sons Leo and Greg at the Dubai 24 hour race. Commenting on the activity in Geneva, CEO Dany Bahar said: ”For me, this show is about the Evora, particularly the Evora S, it complements the range perfectly, the response from the media so far has been fantastic, we're really proud of it. I think our collaboration with Mansory really showcases the aesthetic potential of the car too, the only limit is your imagination. And on the subject of pleasing aesthetics, I think the Evora Enduro looks incredible in black and gold, I saw the F1 team checking it out and I know Bruno Senna is looking forward to putting it to the test at our track in Hethel.” |

Maximum fun, minimum collateral.
Anyone harbouring under the misapprehension that Lotus might be moving away from performance through lightweight only needs to take a quick ride in the new 1.6 Lotus Elise Club Racer to know that’s definitely not the case. The bright engineers at Lotus put even the lightest of Lotus’ modern cars on a diet and managed to shed a further 24kg. So how did Lotus manage to make one of the lightest models on the market even lighter? The engineers behind the Elise Club Racer took a stripped-to-the-bare-bone approach visualised by the body-coloured seats but materialised in many ways such as the motorsport derived lightweight battery and the deletion of noise insulation. Attention to even the smallest of details has ensured that Lotus’ passion for performance through lightweight has been translated throughout the car. For the first time ever an Elise variant comes complete with a Sport setting for the DPM (Dynamic Performance Management) allowing even the less experienced sports car drivers to feel at the top of their game, while the ability to switch it off completely will please the more established track orientated drivers. DPM combined with improved agility courtesy of Lotus finely tuned sport suspension and an adjustable anti-roll bar will make the Elise Club Racer equally versatile for both road and race track fun. Wolf Zimmermann Chief Technical Officer Lotus Cars said: “The traditional Lotus approach of reduction and purity has lead to one of the most zeitgeist and contemporary sports cars around. For over 15 years the Lotus Elise has become an icon in the sports car market, carving out a niche market with a dedicated following of lightweight fans. The new Club Racer will definitely give these people something extra to get their teeth stuck into. This car epitomises everything that’s cool about the Elise it’s fast, raw, responsive and a huge amount of fun to drive.” Quality throughout the vehicle has been a top priority, highly regarded component suppliers such as Eibach for springs and Bilstein for dampers ensure that the Elise Club Racer is a car of substance as well as style. The Elise Club Racer pleases the eye as well as the soul with a choice of six striking colours (Sky Blue, Saffron Yellow, Ardent Red, Aspen White, Matt Black and Carbon Grey) and bespoke design elements that emphasise the character of the car. It’s pocket pleasing too, at £27,500 / €34,450 / CHF48,900, the Elise Club Racer marks the new entry level sports car from Lotus. And with the Elise standard of just 149g CO2/km plus the weight reduction, the new Club Racer provides maximum fun without so much of the green-guilt usually associated with high performance driving. Lotus Elise Club Racer: Purity, performance, pleasure - a TRUE Lotus. |

The iconic Senna name is once again united with Lotus as Bruno Senna signs with Lotus Renault GP as third driver and also becomes the latest ambassador for Group Lotus. Bruno’s test driving role with Group Lotus is very development focussed and will see him provide valuable input into all Lotus cars, both track and road. Commenting on the announcement Bruno Senna said: 'It’s a really exciting opportunity from both Group Lotus and Lotus Renault GP. To be able to develop my Formula One career within a World Championship winning organisation and to do so in conjunction with some hugely interesting work for such an iconic sports car company as Lotus is a once in a lifetime opportunity. “Lotus has placed a great deal of faith in me and I am looking forward to beginning work on the technical side of our relationship. Normally people like to talk about the ‘technology transfer’ between F1 and road cars but in Bruno’s case we’re opening this up to an intellectual transfer we’re certainly going to keep him busy!" |

Group Lotus and Proton are delighted with the outcome of yesterday’s hearing in which the Judge ordered a full trial of this matter to be heard as soon as possible given the proximity of the start of the new 2011 Formula 1 season in a few weeks. The trial has been fixed at the English High Court for 21 March 2011.
Group Lotus and Proton have been made aware of the press release issued by 1Malaysia Racing Team (1MRT), it is completely incorrect and a misrepresentation of the Judge’s decision suggesting that Group Lotus’ application was “thrown out”. No decision was made on Group Lotus’ application. The Judge proposed that the better procedural route was to order a speedy trial of all the issues in dispute in the case. 1MRT initially resisted the Judge's approach to resolve all matters quickly and before the start of the 2011 Formula 1 season but the order was subsequently made and the first available date was 21 March. Group Lotus and Proton have always held the view that this matter should be resolved as soon as possible in the interests of Formula 1 and the fans. We therefore welcome this decision and look forward to the full trial. We are confident that at the trial Group Lotus will succeed in preventing 1MRT, Mr Fernandes and his companies, from using the Lotus name in Formula 1 once and for all. |

Mansell will also complete the Type 125 test driver line-up as he joins fellow former F1 driver Jean Alesi and Lotus factory driver James Rossiter to put the F1 inspired customer race car through its paces at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi this week. Nigel Mansell is no stranger to Lotus, over 30 years ago Lotus founder Colin Chapman spotted him when he was racing in F3 and signed him up as a development driver giving the future world champion his break into the sport. Mansell rejoins Lotus to take on another development role and, alongside Alesi and Rossiter, he will play a crucial role in ensuring that the Type 125 is the most enjoyable and challenging race car experience on the market. Commenting on the announcement Nigel Mansell said: “I’m really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the Type 125, I can’t wait to see how it handles the new circuit in Abu Dhabi. Returning to Lotus in this capacity brings back a lot of memories for me. I will always be extremely grateful to Lotus and especially to Colin Chapman, who was so inspirational and almost like a second father to me. I’ve been watching the developments that have been taking place recently at Hethel with their ambitious race and road car projects with great interest. I’m really delighted to see that Lotus is back where it belongs competing with the best in the top echelons of motorsport.” Nigel isn’t the only member of the Mansell family to be welcomed into the current Lotus Motorsport fold. Mansell’s two sons, Leo and Greg received their Lotus debut just over a week ago as they formed part of the team that took on the gruelling Dubai 24 hour race, the team had a spectacular first outing in the new Evora GT4 Endurance race car, with a great performance resulting in a third place podium finish for the category. Lotus Director of Motorsport Claudio Berro said: “We’re very pleased to have Nigel on board for the test in Abu Dhabi, he brings a wealth of experience to the team and we’re looking forward to getting his feedback on the Type 125 experience. In addition to the test, we also have a group of private individuals who will be the first to drive and possible own this incredible race car in Abu Dhabi and these guys will be looking to the professional test drivers for advice on how to get the most out of the car.” |

Lotus launches luxury lifestyle concept Lotus Originals.
February 2011 will mark the launch of new luxury lifestyle brand, Lotus Originals. Inspired by the Lotus DNA of innovation and design excellence, the debut collection is a range of performance outerwear, refined, luxury knitwear and leather goods that reflect the craftsmanship, heritage and spirit of Lotus. Lotus Originals will be exclusively available from the Lotus website (www.lotusoriginals.com) from February. The launch of the new range is a natural step in the repositioning of Lotus as a lifestyle brand. As the saying goes, the devil is in the detail and the Lotus Originals range is no exception to this. Lotus have carefully hand picked the very best suppliers and materials to work with ensuring that the range reflects the future of Lotus. Those who appreciate the finer things in life can indulge themselves with 100% cashmere sweaters and hand-treated leather in the form of a stunning leather jacket, inspired by the 1970s drivers’ suits. Wiebke Bauer, Director of Licensing and Merchandising for Lotus said: “Our goal with the Lotus Originals concept was to create a range of apparel and accessories that really capture the true spirit of our iconic British brand. Lotus Originals isn’t just for traditional car enthusiasts, on some of the pieces the branding is very subtle allowing the style and quality to shine so we hope that it will appeal to a much broader audience. We have developed a collection that is luxurious in a classic, understated way so it is easy to wear every day yet still make you feel part of our very special brand.” Motor racing and sports car heritage have been used as inspiration for the collection. For example selected pieces are textured in a stylised way to signify tyre treads whilst elsewhere a white ‘armband’ design shows the interpretation of race track markings. Throughout the collection each piece is detailed thoughtfully to reference the brand’s unique DNA and automotive history. Polo shirts and T-shirts feature double stitch edging and a playful approach to branding, with vintage Lotus logos, racing stripes and car silhouettes. Block colour numbers relate to the dates of famous racing victories of the 1960s and 70s, as well as 1948 - the year that Lotus founder Colin Chapman built the first car. The clothing collection is accompanied by a range of Lotus Originals lifestyle accessories. Hand-crafted luggage is available in sumptuous tan leather or lightweight canvas and calfskin leather driving gloves in tan, black, Lotus green and bright yellow are the ultimate driver’s indulgence. Exclusive gaming sets in lacquered carbon fibre and leather wallets, belts and luxury desk accessories are also available as part of the Lotus Originals lifestyle range. Jean Alesi and James Rossiter put the F1 inspired race machine through its paces at the Autodromo di Vallelunga.
Lotus’ F1 inspired customer race car, the Type 125, had its first official run out at the Italian track earlier this week as F1 legend Jean Alesi and Lotus factory driver James Rossiter completed over 200 kilometres during the two day test. Commenting on the test, Lotus’ Director of Motorsport Operations, Miodrag Kotur said: “We’re very happy with the initial performance of the car, there are still some things that we want to improve on but that’s natural at this stage and that’s exactly why we test. Between them Jean Alesi and James Rossiter have an incredible wealth of experience and they put this to good use in Vallelunga.” Lotus Type 125 Ambassador Jean Alesi said: “Testing is always a big challenge, it’s a different kind of pressure to racing but you still can’t relax for a second. I enjoyed my first outing in the car, it’s great to be involved at such a crucial stage in the cars’ development, I really feel like I can help to make this car as fun to drive as possible.” Lotus factory driver James Rossiter said: “The Type 125 is unique, it’s intense, it’s extreme and it’s very raw. I can honestly say that I think it’s the closest a ‘normal’ person can get to driving an F1 car. Vallelunga was great, we learnt a lot about the car there and I’m really looking forward to the next test in a few days, it will be really interesting to see how the car responds to the conditions of a very different track.” Next week (25th and 26th January) the Type 125 will test at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi’s F1 track, where Alesi and Rossiter will be joined by a very special ‘yet-to-be-announced’ test driver before 15 potential buyers get their chance behind the wheel. |
